This music thing is really starting to work for me. And it has all come together in the same way things came together for me in China. It’s almost eerie. I dabbled with my music during my first year in China, but what really set the wheels in motion were the two Christmas shows I did at the end of 2003 in Beijing and Changchun. Both events were televised.
By the time I made my way back from a six week vacation back home, everything had fallen into place. I started singing at a small bar once a week with another Canadian musician. After a few months, we had another offer at a different bar to perform twice a week. We worked with a Chinese band for a few months and then we met the guys from Mixed Beat and suddenly, “Shazam!” I was performing every night of the week in a variety of bars throughout the city of Changchun. The next step was a full time gig at a bar in Guangzhou.
Things have more or less happened the same way in Taiwan. My first six months here were an adjustment period. Then I met Lily at Citizen Cain and through her, I’ve made more contacts in the world of music in Taipei. Now I’m working with a new band. Brand spankin’ new.
Today, we had our first paid performance at Fu Jen University for a basketball award ceremony and Christmas party. The show went well. We were placed in prime position on a massive stage. The six of us had plenty of room to move around. Everyone had a great time. People were up and dancing. We made some extra contacts and best of all, we’ve been asked to play again for other events coming up in the next two months. Big things are starting to happen folks. I’m thrilled to be back on stage again.

Whoo-way to go Carrie. Look forward to catching the magic some time.
What kind of music do you perform? Are they covers or original numbers, English or Chinese?
Thanks Mark!
Kim,
We’re a new band so we’re still putting stuff together. Right now, we’re doing covers. We hope to start with some originals soon. I sang in Chinese in China. I’d like to continue to sing those songs here in Taiwan. The band has also indicated they would like me to learn some Filipino folk songs. I’m up for anything! Thanks for dropping by.
oooh. i would love to hear you sing. anyway, if you need help with filipino covers, email me.
but i bet you have filipino friends too.
if you happen to release an EP in the near future, i’d like to buy one. seriously.
Hi Jean,
You’re so sweet to offer. I’m pretty excited to learn some new songs, especially in Tagalog. I have amazing Filipino friends. Every time I meet someone from the Philippines, I’m blown away by their kindness and acceptance. I always feel like these will be lasting friendships. The Philippines is high on my list of places to go in the next three years. Hopefully, I’ll get the chance to meet you in person.
